Monochromaster Excavated #1

2024
Digital print on passe-partout cardboard
30 x 40 cm

This is one work out of a set of three that came out of a collaboration with artist Cor van der Meijden.

In the series Excavation Cor uses found pieces of paper to make collages. By making a monochomaster version I am using found color to make my work. This duo presentation is the first time the Monochromasters have been presented alongside the original artworks on which they are based.

Cor was kind enough to leave his collages with me to photograph. I photographed the original collages in a number of ways with a number of lighting conditions, to establish the exact color I needed to use to get as close to the real median color as possible.

I then made test prints and photographed those to be able to determine which was the right color.

The result was exhibited in KUUB in a duo presentation with Cor van der Meijden.

It was a real thrill to be able to match the monochromaster to the source art work in real life.
