Christy Turlington was one of the original supermodels in the 90s. I thought she was the most beautiful woman. I was a young man, studying art in the Netherlands. For me this was a time full of energy, creativity, dreams and ambitions. I was totally enamoured with art, and wanted nothing more than to ‘live the art life’ as David Lynch calls it.
This seems a lifetime ago. And well, it is. But the last couple of years I am trying to get back into the practice and mindset of making art. But I must acknowledge I am getting older. I decided to create a memento mori — So I created portraits of Christy using skull images as masks and templates:

I used a low resolution of 500 x 500 pixels. This was the resolution that I made the first m0del portrait in of Kylie. And the pixelated low-res aesthetic reminds me of the early digital art and video art in the 90s, another connection to my youth, another marking of time passing and life and art changing.
