{"id":4347,"date":"2024-10-22T19:36:27","date_gmt":"2024-10-22T19:36:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/xndre.com\/?p=4332"},"modified":"2025-06-01T22:27:36","modified_gmt":"2025-06-01T20:27:36","slug":"gerhard-richter-painting-strips","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/andrebrocatus.com\/art\/gerhard-richter-painting-strips","title":{"rendered":"Gerhard Richter Painting Strips"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>When I first saw the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gerhard-richter.com\/en\/art\/paintings\/abstracts\/strips-93\/?p=1&amp;sp=32\">Strip works that Gerhard Richter made<\/a> around 2011, I was rather taken aback. This was the concept and aesthetic of digital and internet art, not for Gerhard Richter to appropriate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>But maybe I was just jealous, because I feel that I could have made these works, or any artist since around 2000. <em>But you didn&#8217;t.<\/em> But I didn&#8217;t. But what I <em>did<\/em> do, is turn the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1982113\/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1\">2014 movie Gerhard Richter Painting<\/a> into one long large strips fest video. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Gerhard Richter Painting Strips\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8h5eYlv7H0c?feature=oembed\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MPG video Full HD<br \/>\nrunning time 01:36:05<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":4336,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"video","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"off","_et_pb_old_content":"<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>In thinking about the Monochromes series I am always thinking on how I can apply the concept and curiosity to all the art that I love. What, for example, would a monochrome movie look like? <\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>I adapted my Processing program to read video and output the average of every frame back to a video file. The result is a video of monochromes, like watching a movie's reflection on a wall, but much more intense. <\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>For my first experiment I used the movie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=33s-05R-BwU\">Blue Velvet<\/a> by David Lynch (1986) as the source. I love this movie, I love David Lynch, as a filmmaker, artist, and personality. I also chose Blue Velvet because of the color in the title, but also because the film has a lot of high contrast scenes and some bright colors in it. <\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The result was more engaging than I thought it would be\u2026&nbsp;I personally love the intense monochromes that seem to live, and the dramatic changes in color and light\u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Here are some sample scenes that I think work quite well: <\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->","_et_gb_content_width":"960","footnotes":""},"categories":[76,1],"tags":[75],"class_list":["post-4347","post","type-post","status-publish","format-video","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-video","category-work","tag-video","post_format-post-format-video"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.6 -
