data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2653\">Teddy<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/andrebrocatus.com\/art\/alejandra-byte\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2768\">Alejandra<\/a> portraits, I began thinking about other shapes to use for assembling the portraits. And I was curious what would happen if I used a mask. I decided to use pictures of Birgit Kos; I liked the shape of her face and thought her strong features would still come across through \/ as a mask. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I love this photo by Man Ray and I thought this series would somehow be a synthesis of the two faces: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"746\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/andrebrocatus.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/man-ray-black-and-white.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3045\" srcset=\"https:\/\/andrebrocatus.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/man-ray-black-and-white.jpg 746w, https:\/\/andrebrocatus.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/man-ray-black-and-white-480x386.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 746px, 100vw\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Image from manray.net<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But I also was inspired to try and get to something like the heads in Demoiselles d&#8217;Avignon: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/andrebrocatus.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/Les_Demoiselles_dAvignon-988x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3047\" width=\"741\" height=\"768\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Image from Wikipedia<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I created a set of elements to combine to form masks. These were also to be assembled by chance,  combining a face, eyes, nose and mouth shape. In previous portrait series I could get away with sizing up the sources to 1000 pixels because of the alternating pixels from every other image. But here the sizing up would be too apparent. As before I generated a 1000 images. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were a lot of results that had a very cubist or dada vibe:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-4 They function more like a portrait, but are very clearly made up of different parts.
